About
Hi !
I'm Arthur, 20 and
currently an art student in France.
about me:
I live in France, and I am bilingual.
I am an art student in Nancy, and aspiring artist in the video game industry.
After I graduated from high school, I went to a preparatory class in Nancy, and I passed my entry exams to enter the ENSAD Nancy, an art school where I'm aiming for a license.
I use Clip Studio Paint Pro, know how to work in Blender, Photoshop, Adobe Premiere and I have already used Illustrator.

My experience:

I took part in a lot of artistic activities since I was young, such as sculpture, painting, story telling, graffiti, drawing, digital drawing, 3D modeling and photography. I used my environnement as a source of inspiration to level up in my practice, and I searched for professional advices to level up my skills.
I took part in art groups and classes to practice and collaborate with other people, giving me a sense of collaboration and teamwork. I ended up with my own exhibition in my hometown.

I am going to as many art-related events as I can, taking my time to sketch up my environment everywhere I go and broaden my knowledge with every opportunity. I wake up everyday with a will to learn.
I essentially use my pop culture to create.

From everything I learned so far, the most important element is that I have to try myself out to new horizons all the time.

My work:

I discovered during my year of CPES-CAAP that my work was not as touching and striking as I wanted it to be. In fact, I found out it was missing something : diversity. Since this discovery, I chose to incorporate characters that were different, with handicaps, imperfections, away from any stereotypes, clichés or expectations. This way, I could create unique characters that everybody could look up to, or despise.

My references:

I am always hungry for more discoveries and sources of inspiration. Here is a list of references that struck me the most. Let's begin with artistic references.

Work on surrounding spaces and/or representation hold a special place within my heart.
Here is a small compilation of my favorite artists :

Let us now review my references in video games. I have interest for small and big studios alike, like Innersloth, Devolver, Gears for Breakfast and Tempered. My favorite and most striking references are Splatoon 2, A Hat in Time, Ace Attorney, Fall Guys, Space Invaders and Persona 5.
The Persona franchise and in particular the fifth game were the beginning of a more important questioning around esthetic with the color palette and typography/ shapes of presentation of the text and other elements, which led to a major turnaround in my view of these elements.

As for the book section, here it is !

I read a lot of classic references such as 1984, Emile Zola and Victor Hugo repertoire, or more recent U4, Soit belle et t'es toi or Back Down.
In the video game-related books section there is Level Up! The guide to great video game design and the artbooks of Persona, Zelda, Splatoon, Mario, and other text on the consoles, how they work, their characteristics or successes.
I also read a lot of psychanalytic essays to incorporate a more complex and deep psychology to my characters.

Next, here is a list of shows, cartoons and movies I watch.

In the cartoons category, I watched South Park, Gravity Falls, and freelance shows like Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss, Murder Drones and Meta Runner.
I have interest in watching historical films like De Gaulle, J'accuse or video games-related movies such as Ready Player One, Pixels, Wreck-It Ralph and The New Super Mario Bros. movie.

I also read and listen to the news everyday, French and worldwide such as BBC World, Le Canard enchaîné, Le Monde, Charlie Hebdo, Connaissance des Arts, Art Press, The new York Times, Art World news, or even video game accounts such as Atlus West, Fall Guys Game, Nintendo of America and Video Game Art.
